Most of you will look at these pictures and think to yourself, “Wow, what a great home.  It must be located on Richmond, Ashland or Norwood.” but that’s not the case.  It’s located at 36 North Parade and is one of the greatest examples of Queen Anne style architecture in Buffalo.

For those of you not familiar with North Parade, it is located on the city’s near eastside and faces Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.  MLK Jr. Park (formerly known as The Parade and Humboldt Park) is part of Buffalo’s Olmstead Park System and is probably the most underutilized green space in the city.

…just wanted to share this beauty with the hotbuffalo readers.  I hope it never sees the same fate at 2 Girard Place, located about a quarter mile away.

Thanks to Don Nieman for pointing this one out to me a few years back.  Check out Don’s incredible shots of the city at http://www.pbase.com/dhnieman/buffalo_ny.

  1. Very cool!

  2. I’ve always thought this was a lovely home, My family (Shoulders Family) lived next door at 28 North Parade for many years until a house fire in the 1990′s. The owner of 36 North Parade was an older gentleman named Mr. Winkler who I believe was the original owner of 36 North Parade.

Mr. Winkler was at least in his late 80′s or early 90′s when I was a youngster. He used to tell my siblings & I wonderful stories of when each house on the block was built & the history of Martin Luther King Park. When I was a child into my teens the park was named Humbolt Park.

My family & I spent a lot of time in the park having picnics, enjoying the “Rose Garden”, Ice Skating & swimming in the Wading pool & enjoying the wonders of the Science Museum.

Mr. Winkler’s house as well as ours at 24 North Parade and many of the older homes on the block had hard wood floors, newel post in the foyer, spacious living & Dining Rooms, sliding wood doors that separate the Living area from the Dining room and a den.

The older homes had beutiful stain glass windows and attics the size of apartments.

Our attic had 2 bedrooms, 2 storage closets, a full bathroom, Living Room area and a sitting room. My family and I to this day often reflect on the beutiful home we grew up in and the Beautiful Park we lived across the street from.

The attics were the size of apartments. Our attic had 2 bedromms, a living room,

  3. The Shoulders Family house was (28 North Parade, 24 North Parade (Typo)listed above was my Godfathers house next door.
