Gone but not forgotten… Sorry, “completely forgotten”.

When did preservation become popular? If you look around Buffalo you would probably say to yourself “Has it ever been popular here?” and that would definitely be a fair question. So many great building have been lost to “progress”, neglect or a variety of other factors. In my opinion, Buffalo is a City with the “slash and burn” mentality, demolishing buildings with little regard for architecture, history or preservation. It is a shame that so many wonderful building are now just a memory… and for most of us, not even that.
I wanted to share with the Hot Buffalo readers a couple buildings that most of you probably know nothing about. The Erie County Saving Bank Building and the Buffalo Public Library Building which were both lost in the 1960’s to make way for “better” and more modern structures.
Take a little time and read the information at the following links. It’s the only way many of use can enjoy the great buildings of Buffalo’s past. (Thanks to WNY Heritage Press for the pictures and information.)

Before and after… Which do you favor?

I think we should knock down city hall and build a wal-mart there. Keep in line with the stupidity of the past.
