Channel 4 Back in Buffalo
By hotbuffalo on Wednesday, October 29, 2008
Around 7:00 AM this morning, Western New York got Channel 4, WIVB, (and Channel 23 WNLO) back!
LIN broadcasting, the company that owns Channel 4 and channel 23, was losing between $100,000 and $150,000 every week because of loss of advertising dollars. Channel 4 lost $40,000 alone during each Buffalo Bills games.
We may never know what deal LIN broadcasting got as there is a non-disclosure agreement that had to be signed.
Time Warner never would have given the full demands because it would start a landslide of negotiations from other local channels. Is it possible that the other channels will try the same? Was Dish Network or DirecTV in bed with LIN broadcasting? Satellite TV installs more than doubled after channel 4 went off the air and FIOS TV was also turned on.
