Friday the 13th and a Buffalo State of Emergency
By hotbuffalo on Friday, October 13, 2006

Friday the 13th of October 2006 brought a lot of problems. Most trees still had all of their leaves which hadn’t even begun to turn any shade of red, orange or yellow. This, coupled with a freak snow storm made for disasterous results. The wet snow clung to every leaf adding much more weight than these trees could bare. Thousands of Western NY trees toppled or broke that Thursday and Friday. That may sound like an exhageration but is in fact truth. The first photo is the intersection of Summer and Linwood.
Due to SO many trees and powerlines down, it wasn’t until about noon before snowplows could be put to work.
One of the only few place in downtown Buffalo that was still open, and quite busy, was Jim’s Steakout on the corner Allen and Elmwood. “EVERYBODY SAY THANKYOU!”.
