Amy-N-Aimee Salon Disappoints
By Me on Saturday, July 22, 2006

Amy-N-Aimee hair salon at first glance appears to be a slighly trendy place to get one’s hair done on Elmwood Avenue close to downtown Buffalo. However, this Hot Buffalo writer didn’t quite get to experience the salon. After making an appointment with Amy (or perhaps it was Aimee) and showing up promptly, Amy informed this writer that it was going to be at least another half an hour before she could be with me. Being the busy ever in motion Buffalo resident that so many of us are, I let Amy know that it wasn’t going to be acceptable. There were no apologies or even a look of regret as I took the apparent hint and left this little trendy slice of Elmwood avenue behind me.
It seems this salon isn’t for everybody, a little Googling and we found this quote from JudysBook.com.
“It’s a good place for a special haircut – a wedding or some other special event. They do a nice job, but whenever I go here I feel like an idiot. The place is very trendy, full of young hairstylists who can’t really have a normal conversation. I guess if you are used to the scene it’s fine. ”
Where oh where are the days when people feigned an apology? I guess I’m off to SuperCuts for an emergency haircut. At least they are usually nice there.

I have to respectfully disagree with you about this salon. I have been going here for quite some time and Stephen Spadel is really terrific. I never have to wait and he does wonderful cuts and is a color specialist. I always receive compliments after I have my hair done here!

Perhaps it would have been great. However they don’t seem to even have enough time to keep their appointments.

I disagree, and while I wait sometimes, I feel its worth it. I find both Amieey’s extremely friendly, Stephen is also a wonderful hair stylist as well, and we’ve all become friends. My entire family goes here. I love my style, trendy, I love my color, rich and auburn, and I love my hair stylist Amy Peters, and my colorist Aimiee Kennedy. We just hit it off. People all talk to you as well, so I don’t understand that. You want a good hair cut, and great color? A half an hour is time enough to sit back and reflect on having some space to yourself.

Great Spot. If you have to wait, and don’t have the time, then go find someone that isn’t busy. Good luck with that haircut.

There’s waiting for your scheduled time, then there’s a disrespectful “We don’t have time for you” after they promised they would. They are more than welcome to invite us back for a second opinion. We realize everybody has their off days.
So far it’s been over 2 years with no comment from the staff or owner.

I always walk past this place and one day I decided I’d go in for a haircut. I don’t know if it was because I was in laundry day clothing or what, but one look at me as soon as I walked thru the door and I heard “We don’t do walk ins…” Came back a few days later not wearing an old hoodie and I was kindly let known I could wait a bit or schedule an appointment. I just left. =\

I walked in in totally unfashionable clothes the first time I noticed the David Bowie portrait they had hanging near the front window. They were actually closing, but Christina stayed late to do my hair for me. I’ve never had a bad cut from this place, or a bad experience in any way. I just scheduled a last minute appointment for today and I’m looking forward to it.

I think this place is great. Never had any problems. Every personality is different. But once you get to know them there great. Stephen Spadel is an awesome stylist and has a great personality. So give him a try you will be pleased.

I was introduced to Stephen through a friend when I was looking for a new stylist. This salon has been extremely accomodating to my schedule (including a last minute appointment just last week!) and I’ve never had a bad style. I’ve referred friends since and they’ve all been pleased prompting them to become regulars. Everyone is friendly and I always have a great time. That said I suppose it’s not for everyone, but I love the place and highly recommend it.

I’ve been going there since it was Sassy Salon in the late ’80s. Amy Peters has been cutting my hair for most of the last 15 years. Sometimes I have to wait — they’re pretty busy and sometimes a bit scatterbrained and/or hung over — but it’s not a big deal and the cuts are worth the wait. Last time they were running behind, they sent Top Jimmy over to Wilson Farms to bring me a beer.
Hey, the place isn’t for everyone, and there are certainly some interesting personalities. If you want polite, prompt, and plastic, go to Williamsville or Clarence…this is Elmwood!

For almost two decades, the only people I allow to manage my hair styling are the beautiful and talented women at this salon. There was a point in time that I lived approximately 2 hours away and I still came back, just for my appointments. The thing I love most about the salon is the diversity of people that work there, customers, and just friends of theirs that drop by. They are the best! My husband alway says “There’s nothing better than any AMY CUT” and I agree!!!!!!!!!!

If you recieve poor service, an “I really care less about you” attitude, or a cut that you feel is sub-par, then maybe, just maybe they are sending you a message. Accept it and don’t return.
