YACA (Yet Another Casino Article)

A casino in Buffalo, NY will have both good and bad effects. What I would like to see though is something similar to Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls, Canada.

A casino downtown could revitalize Main Street and bring in other great business like the highly rumored Bass Pro. A casino could put real weight behind expanding the subway and restoring a heartbeat to Buffalo. Perhaps this is too lofty of a vision but I would like to see downtown revitalized to the AM&A’s glory days and casino has a HUGE possibility to do that.

  1. I have been thinking a lot about the new proposed casino. At first I was all for it because it sounded like a good deal for the city. Now after reviewing the facts I am changing my mind. I think that the city of Buffalo should get at least 25% of all revenue the casino generates to revitalize the area. For those of you that don’t know, the Seneca’s keep 75% of the revenue and the state gets the other 25% giving 6% of that 25% back to the city. Sounds like a bad deal to me. Now we have the commercials about how great it is going to be and how many jobs it is going to create. It will create jobs for the Seneca’s and leave minimum wage jobs for everyone else. What about the jobs the city will lose because of business’s in the area closing because the casino will suck the life out of them. Look at Niagara Falls, NY…..what good did it do for the city? Nothing, it is still a dump and there is no new development and that could be one of the biggest attractions in the state. All in all it is a bad deal for everyone.
